About Equi-Heal
Equi-Heal is the pinnacle of over 30 years development in the field of light therapy. The optical output has been engineered to optimise the absorption of 635nm into the mitochondria (the Gold standard) and has been clinically proven by Swansea University Healthcare technology centre.
I-Photonics Ltd in partnership with Swansea University Healthcare Technology Centre concluded: "The in vitro data generated demonstrated that short LED treatment significantly increases the metabolic activity of dermal fibroblast. This increase is still observed 72-hour post treatment, suggesting a beneficial effect on the cells. Furthermore, short LED treatment resulted in an increase in fibroblast wound closure. The difference between LED treated and untreated fibroblast was noticeable and consistent across each repeat."
Low level light therapy (LLLT) has been pioneered by NASA since the 1990s to treat various medical conditions. The wavelengths from 600 to 900nm (Red light) pass through blood and water in tissue more easily than other wavelengths. About 35% of the energy in this range is absorbed by a specific "proton pump" (cytochrome c oxidase, CCO, "complex IV") in mitochondria. The red light "kick-starts" the CCO pump into producing more cellular energy, ATP thus repairing damaged cells.
